Yes, they should!

A good society should ensure that all lives matter equally

So we should make sure there aren't any issues in society that create harm to specific groups of people, right?

Humans have always found ways to reduce harm and achieve amazing things, when they focus on a problem

Why?

Of course not

Things like slavery and Jim Crow laws created significant social and economic imbalances

Some folks are still benefiting from that

And some folks are still struggling because of it

Of course, we all have struggles

But there when some folks have an additional set of struggles that also aren't their fault, we should do something about that

Issues such as red lining

and job discrimination

and unequal education opportunities

and Jim Crow laws

and the resulting generational poverty

and racist drug laws

and institutional racism in policing

and mass incarceration for minor offenses

Leveling the playing field so that more people can benefit from society benefits all of us

Successful societies require us to work together to fix problems

And when we do, everyone benefits
